Central Park Skyline shows a view of Central Park, NYC taken from the Gapstow Bridge over The Pond. It is one of the six images I created as part of my senior thesis in college. The goal of my thesis was to challenge myself, to accomplish something in each picture that I had never before done with fabric. Central Park Skyline’s challenge was perspective and buildings.
I had never before tried to create skyscrapers out of fabric. The hardest part was keeping the windows lined up correctly, since each and every one was individually cut with an Xacto knife. I hand-dyed the blue sky, the blue in the buildings’ windows, and the pond. One other fun fact: One of the green fabrics in the trees on the left has a printed dollar sign ($) pattern. This was a deliberate choice, as I thought it very apropos of the country’s largest city.
