Due to our busy lives I think we often forget there is a whole world of wildlife cohabitating with us and sometimes in spite of us. I personally love the idea that there are critters wandering around in our back yard and climbing our trees during the middle of the night when we’re asleep. Sometimes in the morning I’ll wake up and see evidence of that activity from a hole dug in my garden or some wild animal scat along the greenspace behind our property. It tickles me to know they are out there. I painted Bearly Midnight with that theme in mind. I intended for it to be a whimsical folk-art kind of painting with goats on the roof tops, stylized fish in the pond, and playful color in the fields, trees, and houses. To add cuteness and sentiment I painted in the bear cubs who have totally different personalities. One is following his mama like an obedient little boy, and the other is lagging behind, curious about her world and who is looking back at her.
