This kitten in a pumpkin patch was intended to be a Halloween-themed picture for the company that licenses my artwork. In making it I learned that making art for corporate holiday sales was very much not for me.
The cat was particularly challenging. I was still drawing all of my designs by hand at the time, and I had no way to test colors up front. I knew I wanted a calico cat, but choosing the right fabrics that would blend together and still show highlight and shadow was very difficult. I didn’t know if the kitten would look good or look a mess until it was finished.
