The idea of wildlife living in woods and fields around villages has always warmed my heart. I love that the animals are out there just doing their thing, going about their lives, and raising their families. Meanwhile, we humans are often the ones running ourselves ragged worrying about lots of things that don't even matter in the long run. The impact we have on wild animals and vice versa is a serious subject, but I didn't want the viewer to take me too seriously. So, I painted this picture in a folk art style with humor in mind. The fox is my ambassador for the beautiful creatures that live all around us. The whimsical colors of the fields and houses, and the goats on the rooftops create the lighthearted mood. The swirly sun, the colorful stylized flowers, and the light snowfall add to the whimsy of the whole scene.
